“He went away sad.”

He ran to meet Jesus … but he went away sad.

He fell to his knees before Jesus … but he went away sad.

He asked the Prince of Life how to gain eternal life … but he went away sad.

He was loved by Jesus … but he went away sad.

He was invited to follow Jesus … but he went away sad.

I hate that … but not as much as Jesus did.

He was young and rich … and apparently he had lived righteous life. He wanted “eternal life”, but he let the treasure of his heart keep him from following Jesus … keep him from life.

The treasure of his heart was “wealth”. Jesus knew that. That is why Jesus advised him to give it up (so his heart could treasure Jesus first and most) … and follow Him.

What is the treasure of your heart?  Give it up … and follow Jesus. There is no good reason for you to walk away from Jesus – sad.

No blind man …

No begging leper …

No grieving mother …

No tired hungry crowd …

No demon-possessed man …

No “caught in the act” adulteress …

No “remember me” thief on the cross …

No “do you love me more than these” disciple …

No … not one … ever went away sad.
